Rebecca Schuchat is a Jewish cartoonist, illustrator and multi-disciplinary teaching artist from Oakland, California. Growing up as a Jew in the Bay Area, Rebecca fostered a commitment to the Jewish tenet Tikkun Olam, or healing the world, which has in turn impacted her art-making practice. With a firm belief that the stories we tell both reflect and shape the world we live in, Rebecca strives to create politically and socially-engaged artwork that investigates existing power structures and dreams of a world where power is in the hands of the people. When she isn’t drawing, she can be found biking to her local bagel shop, doing the New York Times crossword, organizing around Universal Healthcare, or dancing to Green Day in her bedroom.
Rebecca holds a BFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts in film/television production where she focused her studies in animation, storyboarding and production design and an MFA from the Center of Cartoon Studies in applied cartooning.
